Of River and Raynn – An Update – A Countdown | Rebecca Ethington

So about this time last year I was sitting in the back of a crowded room, doing my best to blend in and not have anyone notice me. I had a bad haircut and had just started putting on the ‘author weight’ that now plagues me. I was uncomfortable, and even though I had books that were rocking the tops of the charts I was a nobody. A very insecure nobody. But still, I went to UtopYA – my FIRST event – excited, nervous and a little overwhelmed that I was sharing a room with Lila Felix (who still remains my hero in so many ways). I kept my cool (or rather, didn’t talk at all) when I was surrounded by authors I had looked up to and had written the books that I had devoured so greedily that when my sister had suggested (nah, dared) me to publish my book that I knew it was possible because of them (I am looking at you Rachel Higginson).

A.M. Hargrove and I - That hair cut still haunts me....

So, I went, I went with nerves and happily sat in the back of the room, lonely and jealous of everyone who new each other – but still there.

If you had asked me last year I probably would have told you that UtopYA was the worst week of my life. I was lonely, I was humbled, and I left feeling like I had just endured the high school drama and segregation that I had purposefully spent locked away in a theatre downtown to get away from me.

Now, I bet you are wondering why I am bringing this up, and what in the world it has to do with River and Raynn – well the answer, my friends, is everything.

You see, as I sat in the back of those panels, writhing my hands and watching people – I was also thinking. I was devouring not the information that they were spewing, but a story that flew into my mind. A story that was accompanied by an idea so unique – so crazy – that it took me a full year to pull it all together – and even then – we are still madly trying to tie loose ends before we go live on tuesday.

Yes, my friends. Live.

And while writing this book and getting this idea together has put me behind in a few places (my raging emotional and family dramatics have probably contributed more, however) I can promise you, this is going to be worth it.

You see. Of River and Raynn – while still a novel is something distinctly more than that. It is a book, journals, photographs, video and many other types of media wound together to weave a world that is real, a world that is powerful, a world that will blow you away.

Now, I have learned that I am terrible at explaining exactly what this project entails – so I am going to let the trailer for Of River and Raynn give it a go.

Still confused?

That’s okay, I forgive you. Because I can promise you, you are not the only one.

So, what is going to happen that over the next two years the story of Of River and Raynn will unfold in a way you have never seen before – through journal entries, through social media postings, through video, and photographs. The world will be weaved together online over the next three months at which point it will intersect with the release of the first novel in the series ‘The Catalyst”. At the Catalyst’s release, the online, interactive, world will grow featuring weekly videos that will intertwine with the novel and expand the story even further.

Pretty Awesome, huh?

Now, while the books and any associated apps will hold a fee, everything else will be online and available for you to watch, follow, interact and lose yourself in the story in a public forum. You can follow the characters on Facebook, twitter, instagram and tumblr. You can also go to RiverandRaynn.com and follow everyone all at once.

I am so excited to bring the world to you, and to share this story, this adventure with you.

My team and my amazing performers have been hard at work getting everything ready and I guarantee you, as the story begins to unfold, you will be blown away.
